An
atmospheric night photo of new Volkswagens arrived by train at a German
port for export to the USA in 1960. None of the cars have headlamps fitted
because sealed-beam units will be fitted by the selling dealerships in
America
New 1969 model year Type 1 and 3 Volkswagens (minus wiper arms and hubcaps
which are inside the cars) are packed like sardines in the hold of Norwegian
cargo ship DYVI ATLANTIC for export to lucky customers in Norway

number 500,000 for the Netherlands rolled off the line in Wolfsburg on
October 8, 1968

tower in the foreground was only two years old at this time. In the distance,
the smoking Heizkraftwerk thermal power station can be seen with the first
three chimneys under construction
