This is my 1972 Super Beetle, it's
a daily driver since my college years
and it never fails me to all the long
trips I've made. The body is restored
even the fenders, except for the rear
apron, it is de-chromed and color
coded for a more custom look, smoked
tail lights and a clear turn signals
at the bumper for a modern look, and
headlights are H4 units with Philips
Blue Vision bulbs. The rear apron
is fabricated or copied from the original
units found in 1973 and Up models
to achieve more clearance from the
headers. Fitted under stock fenders
are a set of Rota Toxxin 17x7 wheels
the offset is +42 and it is wrapped
with Dunlop LM702 tires 215/40R17
in front and 215/45R17 at the rear,
a 1994 civic rear coil spring is custom
fitted to fit the 17 inch wheels at
front, but the tension is too hard
so I swapped it to a rear coil spring
of a 1994 Lancer for a softer ride.
Sachs super touring gas shocks are
fitted on all sides, a custom strut
bar, a sway bar and a set of Poly
Urethane bushings are also installed
to stiffen the suspension, and a rack
and pinion conversion is done to have
a better steering response.
Inside I used Personal Steering Wheel,
a RAZO shift knob and pedals, a custom
made racing seats, this setup improves
the handling of the beetle so its
more fun to drive at back country
roads. Behind the decklid, the engine's
displacement is 1679cc, built by my
Godfather Tirso D. Aguilar a well
known specialist of Volkswagen here
in the Philippines, port and polished
the stock heads, increased the compression
ratio, match porting, 912 spec. cam,
Weber 32/36 progressive carburetor
with Empi manifold, custom 4-2-1 stainless
steel headers and custom made N1 Muffler,
009 distributor by Bosch and platinum
plugs, a breather box by Empi, an
MSD 6A Ignition System and Accel High
Tension Wires. The power is transferred
to a 4.1 stock IRS VW transmission,
with straight SACHS clutch components.
