Thomas' 1962 Ghia
It started back when I was 17 yrs old, my first car was a 1971 Super Beetle and I was hooked on VWs, 25 years later and 10 more Vee Dubs came and went.
This is my latest a 1962 Karmann Ghia Convertible, when I bought 3 years ago it looked good but needed some TLC. Over a 3 year period I did most of the work myself which includes, new brakes and cylinders, new tires, new shocks, seats, raising the rear splines one notch to make the rear of the car sit level and I undercoated the pan to keep rust away.
I had a Freeway Flyer transmission put in so the rebuilt 1641 cc engine can cruise at 70mph on the highway no problem. I pinned the speedometer at 95 mph with ease a few times but don’t tell the local police.
She sits in the garage year round and has never seen a rain drop, I drive her year round as long as the weather is nice, nothing like putting the top down on a 20 degree day and have people look at you like you're nuts or give you the thumbs up. She is not a trailer queen but a daily driver, she has her little rattles and squeaks and bumps and bruises but for a 47 year old car she is a real joy to drive.
