1972 Kombi Bay Window
It's
a 1972 Kombi bay window, which has lived
all it's life in California and therefore
had an American Conversion. It has had
one proud owner all its life with a full
service history, which is great. I imported
it from Los Angeles to Scotland where
the work started on transforming the faded
pastel white paint and the mustard yellow
and green interior!! The whole van was
stripped, and had not a bit of single
rust, which was great. It was painted
two tones instead of the standard all
white. The interior was done By Alec Watt
and Sons, a well-known and traditional
Upholstery fitting company which had many
years of experience in the business. The
van was fitted with a plasma TV screen,
Fridge, as well as a sink with an electric
pump. The Bench come bed was kept and
works really well in the van. The engine
is a 1.7 Liter twin Carb, which has never
been changed and runs like a dream. The
finishing touch was the roof rack, which
made the van complete. The general consensus
from the many people that I have spoken
to is that it is one of the cleanest and
well finished bay window vans probably
in Scotland, and it definitely attracts
a lot of attention on a Sunday outing!!
