Inderpal's '69 Westy

I just encountered AllAirCooled.com and would love to share the exciting and a long journey history of my VW Westfalia Bus, which has covered almost half the world on road.

So briefly about the history, this Bus was purchased by my uncle Mr. Dhillon from Hamburg Germany on special order for RHD, against full payment in advance and nine months waiting under tourist sales delivery program. He was working with merchant navy and his ship was docked near Hamburg, he purchased with an idea that he would keep the Bus on ship and drive and camp around when the ship docks. He was a great adventurer, and began his journey by road to India, but when he was crossing Austria, he got an SOS message from the company that he is needed. He parked the Bus at his colleagues place in Austria (Vienna) and went for the work. The Bus remained there for two years. In '71 he picked the Bus and continued the journey to India, he reached India. Via Italy-Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan and finally India.

After some years passed his Canadian immigration matured and he was called to Vancouver BC. for good. Interestingly he planned to drive the Bus to Canada. Yes yes he seems to be nut, ha ha, any ways he drove to UK via Pakistan, Afghanistan and crossed the ocean by ship. When he crossed the sea and reached new York, he drove again from new York to Vancouver and at the time he entered Canada, he was suspected to be a drug peddler. Each pin of the Bus was searched as those guys never believed that some one can drive that long way from India?

He used and the Bus there, got it registered but had a problem driving RHD so he purchased a Beetle too. Uncle came back to India in '97 and brought the Bus via sea on TR (transfer of residence) basis back to India. Soon after he started losing vision and he gave me the offer to buy. I had no second choice and it was my dream come true, I jumped to grab it. He got it registered here at Chandigarh, but the Bus has the Canada plate from '97 too. It has two spare wheels and all 6 tires made by BF Goodrich made in Canada. It runs very well and was never restored, its all original, only 2 panels painted and has an anti rust at the bottom by VW to avoid rust from snow and all.

I still have the original keys, tools jack spanner, horns head lamps and all that. The interior is made by Westfalia and are all original. The front nose logo was missing when it came to me as it was removed by some one at Delhi customs. It drives very well and never overheats. I drove long distances in it and many times touched 120 kph, its my love and I love it!

I am a VW freak and I am collecting them since I was 16 years old in 1993. So far I have 5 bugs ('61 Sedan, '62, '65 Deluxe, '71 Sedan 1300 and '71 Super Beetle) a '69 Bus, '69 Westy (above mentioned) and a '88 Westfalia.
